Introduction of Solid Biomechanics

Course Objective: This course focuses on the discussion of mechanical properties of living tissues. Methods of applied mechanics used to treat problem of biological tissues such as blood vessels, skins, muscles and bones will be illustrated during class. Special interest on the application of biomechanics will be addressed. The application of individual component (cartilage, ligament, and bone), musculoskeletal joint (spine, hip, knee ... etc), and organ (heart, brain, lung … etc) will also be presented.

Class Format: The instructor will illustrate selected chapters from text during class. Homework will be given after class, and be submitted one week latter. Both oral and written report should be presented. No midterm or final examine for this class. Grades are based on the class participation and homework.
